About the event

The Legacy Choir, run by the indefatigable Jess Rowe, are the main youth choir of Plymouth, open to all children across the city. It comprises three groups - Mango Tango for primary age, Legacy Choir for teens and the LEGS a capella group, which is auditioned. The latter recently appeared in the youth prom at the Royal Albert Hall, as the only ensemble from the South West, attended a week long workshop and performance with the Gabrieli Consort under Paul McCreesh of Elgar's Dream of Gerontius at Ely Cathedral, and also came second in a very recent competition for a capella singing at Exeter University against strong University singers!

All of this takes money, and the cost of getting to the Albert Hall and back was over £3,000. We are a long way from much of even the south of the country.

Tom Blach, a very accomplished London pianist and accompanist is coming down, without any fee, to play for the concert as accompanist to several excellent soloists (when he played for my Grade 4 singing exam it was like being chauffered in a Rolls Royce).

In addition there will be numerous accompanied and unaccompanied choir pieces. It will be light and enjoyable.

At the end Tom will do a short recital at the end in addition, performing Ravel's Ondine, Jenkins's Rhapsody in C and the first movement of Beethoven's Waldstein Sonata.

The Legacy Choir has a strong following in Plymouth, singing at Rememberance Events, Armed Forces Day, with the Police Choir and at private events, and close to 800 followers on Facebook alone.  So get your advance tickets early!
